Can software run on a network?
Yes. Just install program(s) onto the server and each work station. Program files and data files reside on the server.
Assume you have the network pictured below, Server's drive is C, AND the Server's C Drive is mapped as the Z drive on all work stations.
- Install software on server...C:\Golf Management\
- Install software on WS-1 to Z:\Golf Management\ (which is the server's C drive)
- Install software on WS-2 to Z:\Golf Management\ (which is the server's C drive)
- Install software on WS-3 to Z:\Golf Management\ (which is the server's C drive)
- Install software on WS-4 to Z:\Golf Management\ (which is the server's C drive)
Note: You must install the software on each work station pointing to the server's Z drive, so that "local" dll files (Dynamic-link library files which reside in "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM") are found on the workstation and the software can run. Even though the programs are launched from the server's drive these dll files must be on each local workstation's drive. In other words, when you run the Handicap System program (hms.exe) [or Tournament Manager program (tm.exe) or League Manager program (lm.exe)] from the work station the short cut points to the server's drive (Z:\Golf Management\hms.exe) [or tm.exe or lm.exe] on which the program resides.
